Regular visitors to this site will know it is rare for me to write about bands who approach me, so it was a nice change to receive contact from Portuguese based band A Beta Movement as they prepare to release their new EP
And finally, we reach the end of our “Music Of Guelph” project. This interview has actually been sitting in my inbox for sometime, so I should firstly point out the delay is all mine and nothing to do with our final featured band The Skeletones Four.
Due to reasons unknown, my original State Of Music bands from Arkansas and Vermont decided that they were unable or unwilling (I genuinely do not know which) to donate a track for any of albums which accompanied the original series. So for a brief few days a month or so ago, I got back on the saddle in a mission to track down suitable replacements
We are pleased to announce that the final album in our ‘State Of Music’ series is going to be released on 9th November 2012, both physically through the Choose My Music Records store and digitally on Itunes, Amazon, Spotify and all other good digital download sites.

Dad Rocks came into my life by the generosity of the kind folks at Paper Garden Records based in Brooklyn. We exchanged an envelope of treasures, they got a Choose My Music T-shirt and I got a handful of very awesome albums. My favourite of the bunch was by Norway based Dad Rocks…..
It was another Music Of Guelph-ee, Joesph Gallo Jr. who alerted me to the wonderful folk sounds of Alanna Gurr. We are pleased to announce that Choose My Music Records has teamed up with Italian based Indie Electro Rock band The Morning Light Project have digitally released their song “Under My Red Carpet” for free through our label.
I first real taste of “alternative” Canadian music was around 4 years ago when I happened upon Montreal based band The Unicorns, who really introduced me to the joys of 8-bit sounds in music. Being a computer kid of the 80′s and 90′s it was inevitable that Tyson Brinacombe’s solo project Tyson & His Gameboy was going to appeal.
Although the music of Guelph is predominantly known for more of a folk and slightly offbeat sound, it was great to come across a band who know how to knock out a catchy rock n roll tune and do it so well.
The Magic are the ones tipped to make the Guelph breakthrough, the band who could explode this Canadian city into the big time and surely send all manner of A&R scouts to its doors.
Remember when Seattle went huge in the 90′s? If the same doesn’t happen to Guelph then there is something drastically wrong with this world.
